SELF
Let's stop being less of ourselves.
To be selfless is to be more concerned about the wants and needs of others than one's own. We are told and sold and taught that motherhood and selflessness go hand in hand. That in order to be a ‘good’ mother one must mother in spite of themselves, prioritizing their children’s wants and needs instead of their own, and sacrificing parts of themselves to get the ‘job’ done.
But this is where society has failed mothers, and therefore failed our children. Being a mother requires being honest with ourselves about which needs can be met through mothering and which needs must be met through the continued development of ourselves. I believe our children benefit when we are our fullest and most self-ishversion of ourselves, not the other way around.
